A. General Information Collection Time: Collect sample 24 hours AFTER birth up to 1 month of age. Specimen and Volume: 4 – 5 whole blood spots on Whatsman filter paper; Fill all circles with blood. Do NOT Layer Container: Whatsman Filter PAPER storage and shipping temperature: allow blood to dry 3-4 hrs before packing. Stored the sample in a zip lock © or equivalent bag at room temperature or 20°c- 8°c. Ship the sample in a zip lock or equivalent bag at room temperature or 20°c- 8°c. B. Sample Acceptability special instructions: 1. Blood collection by heel- stick directly on to filter paper up to 18mnths after birth. 2. Blood collection by finger- stick directly onto filter paper after 18 months of age. 3. Venous blood from a central line is acceptable (do not apply blood to filter paper with a needle as haemolysed samples are not acceptable.)
